What An Understatment Global Warming Is

by Savanna
(United States)

I believe that global warming is an under statment, because no one knows or is paying attention to how fast it can and will kill us.

As I read this article I was begining to notice how bad we are to not pay attention at all to this great cause.

When I saw that picture of Greenland's ice cracking, I nearly broke myself. When I saw the flooded land in that other picture, my brain flooded with thoughts of when or if that will happen to us.

I do not know how long it will take for the United States of America to flood, but I really hope that it isn't soon.

We need to time to prepare. Our life is at risk. We can do something you just choose not to. What if we all decided to go vegetarian for a week. I did that. Now maybe 11,000 down the rest of the world to go.

Do you hear my sobs? Do you hear my sister's sobs? Do you hear the polar bears roars for help. Well, if you can't shut off your running water and your not-needed lights and listen.

I am at home with the lights from my windows are shining. Countries all over the world use the same light source as me, why don't you.

Some problems that really do not refer to this subject are on my mind also. I am talking about world hunger and world poverty.

Africa's nations are running very thin. I see big stars are helping Africa's people and reducing, reusing, and recycling.

I just wish that when or even if I get to be a big television star that I will be up there being a big help to the environmentally friendly to the world.

Great thoughts ...

Dear Savanna,

I totally agree with you. My soul is crying the same way as yours. There are A LOT we all can do, we only need to open ourselves up and see the beauty of the nature, to realize that we really need to do something to save it.

Unfortunately, I think that being on a vegetarian diet is not healthy. I tried it for a year (a vegan's diet actually) and got seriously ill and realized it was due to my poor diet ...

I think humans are not yet adapted to pure vegetarian diets, but if we all start converting to it in a gradual way, perhaps it will help the environment in the long-term ...

At the same time, I think that the real solutions to environmental problems that we all face now lie in two big areas:

- Overpopulation.

It's been widely recognized that this planet has too many humans occuupying it now. If only each person commited to having only 1 o 2 children and no more, that would be at least a start.

- Industrial over-production and over-consumption.

Overproduction and overconsumption of many, many things that we really don't need is killing this planet. The economic "growth" that everyone cherishes so much has to be stopped, to give the planet a chance to breathe again.

Of course, there are many other factors that need to be taken care of when trying to solve global warming and related issues. These two are just general starting points.

Wishing you all the luck in becoming famous and helping those who are less lucky :). You have some great intentions in your life, keep them alive and going :).

Irina
