Global warming is cooking the Earth

Global warming is a serious issue that is not widely known. As a matter of fact, this subject is known to a few well educated people, scientists and educationists. Politicians sometime talk about it without announcing any action plan. Media coverage is not well planned and have not been able to create any impact on the masses.

We need a time bound "Action Plan" for each segments of Society to create an "Awareness Programme of the adverse impact of Global warming" by a well designed Campaign to be followed by the Government, Educational institutions, Corporate sectors, NGOs, Social and Sports clubs, Village administrations, Rural co-operatives etc.

Once we are able to reach to the majority of population through our campaign, we can then draw up schemes by which the causes of global warming can be arrested. Without a mass knowledge and their support, the subject of Global warming will remain a subject matter of interesting Seminars, Workshops and meetings where the same set of people will assemble and talk about its adverse impact without any effect.

Brij,

In general, I agree with your comments.

But I would say that there is a high degree of awareness about global warming and its potential dangers in the western countries.

However, what is lacking here in the west is a true, serious commitment by governments to find and implement real solutions to this global issue.

There are many reasons for that.

One, possibly most important, being that if we start cutting down on CO2 emissions, this will inevitably halt the "economic growth" which is so cherished by the capitalist model of economic development.

Economic growth (apart from human greed), in itself, is perhaps the biggest driver of ecological destruction we are currently witnessing throughout the world.

I wish the ruling classes would just finally realize it and start taking action on developing and implementing some innovative, co-operative ideas for business conduct.

Another big reason for the lack of implementation of real measures against global warming is the vested industrial interests which just don't want to allow any progress in this matter.

I agree that global warming is, well, a global issue and has to be addressed by every nation both individually and cooperatively.

There are no easy solutions here, and it will certainly take time and serious effort if we really want to tackle it efficiently.

And I agree with you, Brij, that one of the starting points in this process should be, yes, education, especially in those parts of the world where access to education is restricted for different reasons.
