Global warming in the Philippines

by Abe Soledad
(Philippines, Kidapwan City)

Republic of the Philippines is an archipelago that are rich in natural and outstanding views of natures gift. But the country is now experiencing the raft of global problem the "Global Warming" or climate change.

Some provinces in the Philippines are now having problems of raising good quality craft because of El Nino, farmers and livestocks owner are struggling because of harsh conditions that the climate is throwing on our country. Revers dried out, fishes dies because of lack of water and rising of water temperature. Canals for rice fields are unavailable because of less supply of water. Provincial government declare a provincial crises because of insufficient food supply.

The Philippines is now on the edge of great struggle on keeping up on climate change. Not enough technologies, corrupted fonds for problems related to climate changes, ignorant citizens who don't care about the effects of this Global phenomenas. What lies on this country? How could we survive? would it be the last of our kind?

I hear you
by: Anonymous

Hi Abe,

I feel sad to read that people of Philippines have so many problems because of global warming / climate change. The situation is like that in many parts of the world, and people have to find ways every day to try to put food on the table for their families - and that is not easy.

A lot depends on the government of each particular country. And I do realize that governments may be corrupt and unwilling to help their own people. That's a historical struggle that many nations had to deal with.

I wish all the people of Philippines all the best - and remember, other people know about your plight and are thinking about you and hopefully taking steps to help you. Together we are much stronger.

Lots of warmth,
Irina

Global warming tackled.
by: Anonymous

My name is Henri. I am now staying in the Philippines. I am a Dutch water engineer. In Holland we face higher sea level. We can easily fight that problem with a cooler ocean water temperature.
To lower sea level we should do two things. First is to keep the sea water cooler. We can do that with insulating techniques. And secondly we can stimulate absorbtion of sweet water on the continents. Increased vegetation is the secret.

To insulate the ocean water is much more effective than to tackle the CO2 emission. The side effect of a cooler ocean is a cooler atmosphere. And another side effect is that the typhoons will be reduced in force, and number.

I will be glad to talk about the earth surface insulation theory, anywhere in the Philippines. Global Warming can be tackled fast and efficient.

Global warming in the Philippines

Insulating the earth surface? I can't wait to hear an explanation from you.

I joined an active environment group years ago. We planted trees in the mountains and teach people waste management, that's the only way we knew to help and contribute thinking that we might influence others to duplicate what we are doing.

I feel, however, that the problem of global warming had already reached irreversible level.

I'm still very much active planting trees and have started to learn the basic of survival at the same time.

Let's learn how construct and use clean instruments. Gather all the information on how to make solar oven, solar panels, water purification, organic gardening/aquaponics, etc...

All information that you and your family will need in order to survive the effects of this global warming. Moreover, move away from coastal areas.

Kyoto Protocol/UNFCCC
by: Jun

Salam!

My name is Jun, I'm from Mindanao specifically from the Town of Jolo Province of Sulu. I'm connected with the Jolo Municipal Government and started advocating on this issue since 2008.

Municipality of Jolo is the first town-lead action on Climate Change/Global warming in the Province of Sulu.

Per Greenpeace record, Province of Sulu is number one in the list among the Provinces in ARMM in Sea Level Rise and Drought.

I think, planting trees and advocating on proper waste disposal as what you said are not enough in responding the challenges brought about by Climate Change.

For me, Kyoto Protocol and UNFCCC should be in placed in the implementation of such agreement to reduce at least 5% of fossil fuel emissions from the industrialized and developed countries. We need this international agreement to reduce carbon emissions fast.
